Where Do I Even Start? The First Step in Your Faith Journey
Let’s be honest — starting anything new can feel overwhelming.
A new gym? You Google what shoes to wear.
A new job? You watch a few “how to survive your first day” videos.
But when it comes to faith — you can’t just YouTube your way to heaven.
So, where do you start? What’s the first step?
Step 1: Start with Jesus — Not Religion
This isn’t about memorizing rules or earning gold stars. The faith journey starts with a person — Jesus.
He’s not waiting for you to get your act together before you show up; He’s already done all the heavy lifting. He took your sin, your past, and your mess — nailed it to the cross — and said, “It is finished.”
Faith starts when you believe that.
Not when you understand everything.
Not when you’ve “cleaned up.”
Just when you believe.
Step 2: Say Yes to Relationship
God’s not looking for perfection; He’s looking for connection.
Think of it like this: you don’t have to know every road in the city to start a road trip — you just need to know who’s in the driver’s seat.
Faith isn’t about knowing the whole map. It’s about trusting the One who does.
So, say yes. Start talking to God. Start reading His Word. Start showing up to church — not because it’s what “good people” do, but because that’s where you’ll find fuel for the road.
Step 3: Take Your First Public Step — Water Baptism
Every great story has a defining moment. Baptism is that moment for believers.
It’s like hitting “I’m all in” on your life story. You’re saying goodbye to your old life and stepping into new life in Christ.
Romans 6 says it this way: You were buried with Him in baptism, and raised to walk in newness of life.
It’s not just a ritual — it’s your public declaration that you belong to Jesus now. It’s your line in the sand.
Step 4: Plug In — You’re Not Meant to Walk Alone
Faith isn’t a solo sport. You grow best when you’ve got a crew.
Join a Life Group. Find friends who are walking the same direction.
People who remind you to keep going when life hits hard.
Because let’s be real — we all need someone to say, “You got this.”
Step 5: Keep It Simple
Don’t overcomplicate it.
Read a little Bible each day.
Pray — like you’re talking to a friend.
Keep showing up.
Faith grows in steps, not leaps.
So… where do you start?
Start right where you are — because God already did.
