Wisdom Is Calling — Are We Picking Up?
Ever ignored a call because you didn’t recognize the number? Then later, you realize it was someone important? Ouch. That’s exactly the picture Proverbs paints about Wisdom.
Proverbs 1 says Wisdom is out in the streets, shouting in the busiest places of life—like a mom yelling out the door for her kids to come home for dinner. Wisdom isn’t hiding. She’s calling. The real question is: are we listening?
And here’s where it gets even better: 1 Corinthians 1:30 tells us that Jesus Himself has become our Wisdom. Which means this isn’t just about getting smarter or making fewer mistakes—it’s about pursuing a Person. Wisdom isn’t a concept you study; Wisdom is Someone you follow.
The Call of Wisdom
Proverbs 1:20–21 says Wisdom cries out in the public square. Not in some secret club. Not locked away in a library. Right out in the open, where real life happens.
That means when you’re stressed at work, dealing with family drama, making financial decisions, or trying to figure out your next move—Wisdom is already calling out to you there. God’s not waiting for you to get “spiritual enough” to hear Him. He’s already talking.
The Warning and the Promise
Proverbs 1 also comes with a warning: if we ignore Wisdom, we’ll deal with the fallout. Life gets harder when we stiff-arm God’s voice. But there’s also an incredible promise in verse 33:
“Whoever listens to me will dwell safely, and will be secure, without fear of evil.”
Safe. Secure. Fear-free. Sounds like a good trade for paying attention to Wisdom, right?
How Do We Pursue Wisdom?
If Jesus is our Wisdom, here’s how we run after Him:
Wisdom isn’t about winning debates; it’s about living life in step with the Spirit.
The Everyday Application
This week, slow down enough to listen. Wisdom is already calling—loudly. Don’t miss the call. Answer it.

How Do We Pursue Wisdom?
If Jesus is our Wisdom, here’s how we run after Him:
- Reverence – Put Him in first place. Acknowledge He knows more than we do (because He does).
- Humility – Admit we don’t have it all figured out.
- Desire – Actually want His guidance, not just our way.
- Faith – Trust that His way is best—even when it feels upside down.
- Obedience – Don’t just listen. Do what He says.
Wisdom isn’t about winning debates; it’s about living life in step with the Spirit.
The Everyday Application
- Facing a big decision? Ask what Jesus, your Wisdom, is saying before you move.
- Stuck in a mess? Let Him sweep away the clutter and show you the next step.
- Feeling afraid? Remember His promise: if you listen, you’ll live in safety without fear of evil.
