True Wisdom: Understanding Through the Holy One
We live in a world that tells us to keep learning, keep growing, and keep pursuing knowledge. And that’s good—we go to school, read books, watch videos, observe life, and sharpen our minds. Human knowledge helps us understand the what, the why, and the how of the world around us.
But here’s the deeper truth: no matter how much knowledge we stack up, true understanding—the ordering of it all—only comes from knowing the Holy One: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Knowledge vs. True Understanding
Think about it. Science may explain how the universe works, but it can’t tell us why we exist. Psychology may help us understand behavior, but it can’t fully uncover the eternal purpose behind our souls. Business, art, history, math—all of these are good and necessary. Yet, until we align that knowledge with the wisdom of God, we’re missing the full picture.
Proverbs 9:10 puts it plainly:
“The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning (the chief and choice part) of Wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight and understanding.” (AMPC)
In other words, wisdom doesn’t begin in a classroom—it begins in reverence for God.
Growing in Grace and Knowledge
The Apostle Peter takes it further:
“But grow in grace (undeserved favor, spiritual strength) and recognition and knowledge and understanding of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him be glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:18, AMPC)
Notice the invitation—grow. This isn’t a one-time download of wisdom. It’s a lifelong journey of pursuing Jesus. As we grow in Him, our knowledge is no longer scattered facts; it’s ordered into understanding. We begin to see God’s purposes, His plans, and our place in them.
Why This Matters
It’s not about throwing out human learning—it’s about letting God’s wisdom guide it.
A Prayer for Wisdom
Father, we thank You that Jesus has been made unto us wisdom. As we grow in grace and in the knowledge of Him, we begin to truly understand Your purposes and plans. Thank You for ordering our steps, giving us clarity, and filling our hearts with insight that only comes from You. We give You thanksgiving and praise for such amazing love, wisdom, and purpose. Amen.
Final Thought
Seek knowledge, yes. Grow in understanding, yes. But remember—true wisdom begins not with books, degrees, or experience, but with reverence for the Lord and a daily pursuit of Jesus. When we seek Him, all the other pieces start to make sense.

Why This Matters
- Wisdom clarifies our purpose. We no longer wonder aimlessly but begin to understand why we’re here.
- Wisdom reorders knowledge. Facts and skills become tools, not idols.
- Wisdom gives peace. When we don’t understand everything, we can rest knowing God does.
It’s not about throwing out human learning—it’s about letting God’s wisdom guide it.
